What I tested — same prompt, two models

I run the same fixed prompt set through every new model the day it drops — same string, one shot, single HTML file out — and I score the result 0–10 on whether it ran, how close it hit the brief, and how good it looked. Below is what came out when I gave the exact same prompts to Kimi K3 and Qwen 3.8, side by side, on 41 shared tasks inside the Agent Operating System.

Both models were given identical prompts inside the Agent Operating System — no help, no iteration, no "best of N" tricks. I run each prompt once, save the HTML file the model produces, and score it 0–10 on whether it ran, how close it hit the brief, and how good it looked. The scoring is mine. The verdicts below are pulled from my source comparison guides at agentos.guide where I publish every score and the reasoning behind it.

Kimi K3 · Wired into the Agent OS as the `kimi-k3` Hermes profile and a K3 speed-toggle in the Kimi Code tab — used for long unattended agent runs where a slow-but-right model beats a fast-but-forgetful one.

Qwen 3.8 · Benched on GoldieBench via the Qoder CLI (`qoder-qwen`, model Qwen3.8-Max-Preview) — the only door while it has no public API. Non-game tasks are one-shot like the rest of the field. GAME tasks run in Qoder's real AGENT mode: skill-infused build, then up to 2 QA fix rounds where a vision judge + live console errors are fed back and Qwen 3.8 edits its own file (it took crypt from a black-screen 3.0 to a torch-lit 7.8). Scored on a mid-play frame by the same Opus judge as everyone else. This is a partial run — the full 50-task card replaces it when the batch completes.

Where Kimi K3 beat Qwen 3.8

The tasks where I gave Kimi K3 a higher 0–10 score on the same prompt — with the actual commentary from my source guides.

Kimi K3 8.6 · Qwen 3.8 6.4 (+2.2) · atmospheric torch-lit crypt

What I saw: Strong: genuine first-person 3D dungeon with convincing torch glow, warm falloff lighting on stone brickwork, scattered rubble props, and a polished serif Nordic UI with rune-collection goal that fully nails the brief. Minor weakness: the corridor geometry is a bit boxy and props…

Game Game
Kimi K3 8.4 · Qwen 3.8 6.5 (+1.9) · neon 3D runner

What I saw: Strong, polished 3D synthwave endless runner with Three.js—glowing player orb, neon rails, moving pylons, starfield sun, and a clean HUD (score/best/lives/speed) all render beautifully and on-brief. Deducts slightly for being a familiar lane-runner concept, but the execution and …

Neonsnake Other
Kimi K3 8.6 · Qwen 3.8 6.8 (+1.8) · 3D neon arena

What I saw: Strong 3D take on the brief: crisp neon walls with glowing corner nodes, tilted perspective grid, glowing snake with eyes and a radiant food orb, plus polished HUD, autopilot AI, and pause overlay — visibly beats a flat 2D field. Minor nit is the slightly empty arena interior, bu…

Kimi K3 8.4 · Qwen 3.8 7.0 (+1.4) · neon dragon rings

What I saw: Strong 3D scene renders cleanly: a modeled dragon flying through glowing neon rings over a synthwave terrain with full HUD (score, rings, speed, combo, fury meter) all present and on-brief. Slightly loses points—fire-breath isn't visible in the shot and the dragon model reads a b…

Kimi K3 8.6 · Qwen 3.8 7.8 (+0.8) · atmospheric frozen realm

What I saw: Strong atmospheric render nails the Skyrim-style frozen night — moon, aurora, snowfall, drawn sword in-hand, glowing braziers, distant dragon silhouette on compass, and a full HUD with health/stamina bars. Polished lighting and moody vignette push it to the top of the field; mino…

Galaxy Sim
Qwen 3.8 8.7 · Kimi K3 3.0 (+5.7) · deep-field spiral

What I saw: Strong: a genuinely beautiful, dense spiral with a glowing gold core, color-graded arms (gold→pink→blue) and a polished editorial HUD with live telemetry and interaction hints. Weak: the low 20 fps telemetry hints at heavy load, but the render itself is gorgeous and clearly on-br…

Orbit Sim
Qwen 3.8 8.6 · Kimi K3 3.0 (+5.6) · Cinematic N-body

What I saw: Stunning render — glowing central star with 371 orbiting bodies, colorful nebulae, and dust lanes create a genuinely cinematic gravitational field, backed by real N-body physics with softening and live telemetry. Polished 'Flight Deck' controls (gravity/time sliders, trails, burs…

Dogfight Game
Qwen 3.8 6.8 · Kimi K3 3.5 (+3.3)

What I saw: Excellent military HUD polish—compass tape, radar with contacts, hull/thr/boost bars, and a well-modeled aircraft all render cleanly. But the screenshot shows no visible enemies in the sky and zero combat happening (KILLS 00, empty airspace), leaving it feeling more like a polish…

Terrain Visual
Qwen 3.8 7.8 · Kimi K3 4.5 (+3.3)

What I saw: Strong HUD polish with amber/mono editorial styling, live readouts, and a coherent island terrain with color-banded biomes and floating rocks; but the wireframe-on view reads as a busy dense mesh rather than a striking solid landscape, and the terrain silhouette is fairly flat/lo…

Qwen 3.8 8.7 · Kimi K3 6.5 (+2.2) · Glowing Turing labyrinth

What I saw: Strong Gray-Scott simulation producing a crisp, organic labyrinth pattern with beautiful bioluminescent glow, backed by a polished HUD, 8 presets, live chemistry sliders, and multiple palettes. The rendered field is genuinely on-brief and visually superior to a flat greyscale sim…

Strengths & weaknesses I logged

Kimi K3

Strengths

  • Launch-day benchmarks put it around the Fable/Sol tier, with Terminal Bench (agentic terminal-driving) the standout
  • 1M-token context verified on this bench's needle test: exact recall from 162k tokens of noise in 18s
  • One-shot builds run long but land complete — its first bench game (13.4 min of thinking, 30,880 tokens) playtested with zero JS errors
  • Included in the Kimi coding plan — frontier tier without a new bill

Trade-offs

  • Slow on hard tasks — early testers report up to ~35 minutes at max reasoning; this bench saw 13+ minute single builds
  • Launch-day rate limits on OpenRouter (429s) — the coding-plan endpoint was the reliable route
  • Self-reports as K2.7 if you ask it — verify the served model via the API response, not the model's word

Qwen 3.8

Strengths

  • Skyrim-style open worlds — the Dragon Realm build rendered a lit snowfield, first-person sword and working roaming enemies (7.8)
  • Held up across game genres early — voxel sandbox and Doom raycaster both came out shippable
  • Runs as a real agentic coder inside Qoder (writes + iterates on files), not just a chat model

Trade-offs

  • Torch-lit dungeon (crypt) came out generic (6.3); one open-world RPG one-shot black-screened (twilightvale 2.5) — classic three.js r128 API drift
  • Preview is Qoder / Token-Plan only — no OpenRouter or public API, so it can't be routed into an app the way the OpenRouter models can

The verdict — which should you pick?

Across 41 scored shared tasks, Qwen 3.8 averaged 8.22/10, beating Kimi K3's 7.75/10 by 0.47 points. Pick Qwen 3.8 when the build has to ship on the first prompt and you can afford the trade-offs in the comparison below.

If you only run one of these inside your stack, the head-to-head average above is the call. If you can run both, my honest play is to wire Kimi K3 and Qwen 3.8 both into the Agent Operating System and dispatch each from the kanban by task type — long-horizon agent runs → Kimi K3, one-shot 3d game and world prototypes where atmosphere matters → Qwen 3.8. That's the same setup I run for the 4,000+ founders inside the AI Profit Boardroom.
