Hermes Meshy: What The Official 3D Plugin Does, How To Install It, And The Models That Drive It
Hermes Meshy explained: the official plugin that lets Hermes Agent make 3D models with Meshy, how to install it, what it costs and which models to run.
Hermes Meshy is the official Meshy plugin for Hermes Agent, and it lets your agent turn a text prompt or a photo into a 3D model you can download, animate or print.
Nous Research packages it, Meshy AI writes the MCP server inside it, and the Nous plugin catalog added it on 21 October 2026.
You install it with hermes plugins install meshy, and it needs a Meshy API key, Node.js 18 or newer and Hermes 0.22.3 or newer.
I'm Julian Goldie, and I covered this plugin in my video, but I haven't run it on my own machine yet, so this post is built from Nous's catalog page, the plugin README and Meshy's own docs.
I'll explain what it is, how to set it up, every tool it adds and its limits, and then I'll show you how the models you'd run it with score on GoldieBench.

What is Hermes Meshy?
Hermes Meshy is part of Hermes Official Plugins, which is Nous Research's own set of plugins for Hermes Agent.
One install ships Meshy's first-party MCP server, launched as npx -y @meshy-ai/meshy-mcp-server@0.6.5 over stdio for every new session.
You don't edit mcp_servers in config.yaml, because the plugin starts the server for you while it's switched on.
It also ships a workflow skill called meshy-3d, which carries Meshy's own rules on confirming costs, never re-creating an uncertain task and choosing the output format first.
The README says that skill exists because Hermes does not pass MCP server instructions to the model.
The catalog lists version 0.4.0 at commit c16e967, and the README says @latest is deliberately not used, so every server bump goes through a reviewed re-pin.
The point I made in the video is that 3D used to be a skill you learned in Blender, and now the skill is knowing what to ask for.
What Hermes Meshy costs
The plugin itself is free and MIT licensed.
The 3D work is paid for in Meshy credits, and the README says Meshy API keys need a Pro plan or above.
Meshy's pricing page said on 23 October 2026 that Pro includes 1,000 credits a month and API access.
Meshy's API pricing docs listed a mesh-only text-to-3D preview on its latest model at 20 credits, and an image-to-3D model with 2K textures at 30 credits, on the same day.
I'm not quoting money prices, because Meshy shows them in your local currency.
How to install Hermes Meshy
Update Hermes first if you're below 0.22.3, which a command-line install does with hermes update.
Then run hermes plugins install meshy and hermes plugins enable meshy, which are the exact commands in the README.
Create your API key at meshy.ai under Settings and API, and store it straight away because Meshy says you can't view it again.
In Hermes Desktop, paste the key into Settings, then Plugins, then Meshy, and press Save, and the running server restarts with it on its own.
Without Desktop, hermes config set MESHY_API_KEY msy_... writes the key to your profile's .env.
The first start downloads the pinned server package into npm's cache, so the first session takes a little longer.
Then ask for something simple, such as the README's own example, "Make a low-poly treasure chest for Godot."
Every tool Hermes Meshy adds
The 28 tools load on demand through Hermes's tool search, so they cost nothing in the prompt until the agent uses one.

Text to 3D is a two-stage job, because meshy_text_to_3d makes an untextured preview and meshy_text_to_3d_refine textures it once you approve.
The skill's tool reference says a generation typically takes two to three minutes.
The README's other starter prompt is "Turn ~/photos/mug.jpg into a 3D model and get it ready to print at 10 cm."
My broken cupboard knob example from the video follows the same path, which is photo, model, real-world resize, repair and slicer.
How Hermes Meshy protects your credits
The plugin marks Meshy's server as trust: untrusted, so Hermes asks before every create, download or cancel with Allow once, Allow for this session or Deny.
Read-only tools, such as your balance, usage, task status, the animation library and slicer detection, run without a prompt.

On builds with MCP tool costs, the approval prompt reads something like "Costs about 5–25 credits" plus what the chat has spent.
The README shows how to override the server in config.yaml to skip the prompts, and spend_limit: 0 turns the per-chat limit off, which I wouldn't do.
Files, formats and the Desktop gallery
meshy_download_model saves to the absolute save_to path the agent passes, or else into a meshy_output/ folder in the plugin's own data directory.

Formats Meshy already made download free, and missing formats need a paid Convert action through chat.
The README says API assets normally expire after three days, and Meshy's API quickstart says it keeps files for 3 days on every plan except Enterprise.
In Hermes Desktop, you turn on the plugin's Desktop switch under Capabilities and Plugins, because the Desktop half is opt-in.
You then get inline 3D cards rendered with stock three.js, a Meshy 3D gallery, a credit chip in the status bar and a "Made from" panel that records the prompt, settings, seed and credits behind every model.
The gallery only lists the plugin's own folder and models you've opened or saved, so it never scans your home folder.
The limits of Hermes Meshy

The README says the server sends no analytics of its own and only receives MESHY_API_KEY from your profile.
Does Hermes Meshy ship its own model?
No, it doesn't ship a Hermes chat model, and this is where the GoldieBench angle comes in.
The 3D generation itself runs on Meshy's servers, and Meshy's API docs list meshy-7.1 as its latest 3D model on 23 October 2026.
Everything around that generation runs on whichever model is active in your Hermes profile.
That model reads your request, picks the right Meshy tool, writes the prompt, states the cost, asks for your approval and chains steps such as preview, refine, resize and repair.
So the quality of the conversation, and how few credits you waste on wrong steps, depends on the brain you pick.
Meshy isn't on GoldieBench, because GoldieBench scores language models on one-shot builds, not 3D generation services.
Which models to run with Hermes Meshy
GoldieBench scores models on one-shot builds such as browser games, simulations and visual scenes, not on driving Meshy's tools.
So treat these numbers as a guide to how well a model plans and builds in one go, not as a direct Hermes Meshy score.

For simple one-step requests, such as converting a file or checking your balance, a cheaper model is plenty.
For long chains where a wrong step costs credits, I'd put a top model in charge.
